Quick Summary:
Wireless cable TV has two different meanings. They are both explained below.
1. Domestic Wireless Cable TV
The most common meaning currently refers to a device, often called a Wireless Video Sender, that enables you to watch cable on multiple TVs in your house, without paying extra to the cable TV company.
With a Wireless Video Sender, you can send cable, DVDs, DVR, TiVo, DirecTV and more from one TV to another TV any location in the house.

So for example If you want to watch a DVD in the living room which has the cable connection, while your partner watches TV upstairs, you hook the sender up to the cable box, and it then sends the cable signal to a matching receiver that is connected to the upstairs TV.
The benefits are:
- you don’t have to run any wires, because the video sender is wireless
- there’s no need to pay extra cable fees
- it’s completely legal.
You should be able to find a wireless cable TV box in the price range of $40-$100 for the pair - sender and receiver.
2. Broadcast Wireless Cable TV
Secondly wireless cable TV was a name given to a service technically called “Multichannel Multipoint Distribution Service”, or more commonly shortened to MMDS.
MMDS is a type of cable television system that offers its subscribers a mix of satellite channels by transmitting the programming over the allocated MMDS frequencies.
Wireless cable TV uses Super High Frequency (”SHF”) channels to transmit satellite cable programming over-the-air instead of through overhead or underground wires.
The Benefits of Wireless Cable TV to Subscribers
There are two main benefits
- Good Reach and Availability: A Wireless Cable TV service can be delivered in areas of low population density and other areas where it is too expensive to build a traditional cable station, because the population is too thinly spread.
- Low Cost & Affordable: Because the costs of building a Wireless Cable Station are cheaper than running cables past every subscriber, cost savings can be passed on to subscribers.
