What is Apple TV?

It’s not a cable TV service, its Apple’s latest piece of technology that enables you to watch movies, TV shows, movie trailers, podcasts, and photos from your computer on your TV. Essentially Apple TV brings iTunes to the TV in your lounge room in an easy plug-and-play way which is what Apple do best.

At Feb 2007 Apple TV costs $299 and includes the Apple Remote.

You can download a movie or a show from iTunes and the Apple TV enables your computer to wirelessly sync to your normal TV via the Apple TV, which connects to your TV via an HDMI port or component video and audio ports.

Apple TV uses a built-in, 802.11 wireless capability to sync your iTunes library to any Mac or PC in the house. It automatically stays in sync, so if you change your library in iTunes, it automatically changes on Apple TV.

With Apple TV your iTunes library i.e. movies, TV shows, music, podcasts your digital photos can all be displayed in high definition on your normal TV - simply and easily.

Is Apple TV going to replace cable TV? Certainly not the basic package, because you can’t get much in the way of live content, but it will eat away at extended cable packages, TiVo or Netflix subscriptions.
